Film: how you want it, where you want it, when you want it

Matthew Fox likes being Lost

08 February 2010:

'Lost' star Matthew Fox likes being isolated.

The hunky actor - who plays Dr. Jack Shephard in the US drama series - grew up on a small farm in Wyoming around 60 miles away from the nearest town, but rather than feel as though he was cut off from the world he enjoyed the lifestyle.

Fox - who lived on the farm with his parents and two brothers - said: "We didn't have neighbours or anything like that. I think I did feel isolated, but in a good way. That's remained very important to me. I really need those wide open spaces and feelings of loneliness, I can hear myself better there."

The 43-year-old star - who has two children with his wife Margherita Ronchi - finds it difficult to be in Los Angeles for long periods of time for his acting career, because it is so different from his background and the lifestyle he enjoys.

Fox - who spent months at a time living on the Hawaiian island of Oahu shooting 'Lost' and has recently bought a house in the remote wilds of Oregon - explained to Seven magazine: "When I'm in Los Angeles I just can't f***ing wait to get out of it. The traffic and everything just drives me nuts."
