Written by Editor

It's James Cameron versus ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow as Avatar and The Hurt Locker both score nine Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.

It's the first time the Oscars feature 10 best picture contenders with animated Pixar film Up making it in this category as well as in the Best Animated Picture category.
Notably, Avatar didn't get a nomination for original screenplay and none of the main actors scored nominations for their CGI roles either.
